SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - A Schenectady woman says her Lorraine Avenue home is infested with mice thanks to the vacant home next door, which she says is a breeding ground for the vermin.
Chelsea Sinisgalli's husband first posted the rodent problem on the
NEWS10 Facebook page. Now, Sinisgalli says she is concerned for the health of her three children, including their 1-month-old daughter, as she is constantly clearing mouse droppings from her floor and countertops.
Sinisgalli says she and her husband have spent $600 in exterminator bills, but the mice keep coming.
The Sinisgalli's are not alone.
Their neighbors also complain about a problem with mice since the home at 71 Lorraine Avenue was abandoned three years ago.
Sinisgalli says she has contacted code enforcement to find out what the city plans to do with the home, but they have not given her an answer.
NEWS10 spoke with code enforcement Tuesday and soon after a supervisor arrived taking a look at the home with its doors and windows open. The supervisor says he would look into the problem and get back to Sinisgalli.
But in the meantime, the Sinisgalli family is left, bleach in hand, cleaning up the counters and floors.
