COEYMANS, N.Y. – Authorities in Coeymans Hollow responded to an accident involving a school bus and three vehicles on Monday morning.
Police in the town of Coeymans say the school bus was stopped in front a home on Route 143 in Coeymans Hollow around 7 a.m. to pick up middle school and high school students when a vehicle driven by 17-year-old Jenica Lynn Stott, of Coeymans Hollow, did not stop in time and came into contact with the rear end of the bus.
Shortly after, two other vehicles traveling the same direction approached the scene. The first vehicle driven was able to stop before approaching Stott's car, but the second vehicle struck the rear of the first car initiating a chain reaction, sending that vehicle into the rear of Stott's vehicle which was then driven into the rear of the bus.
The three passenger vehicles all sustained significant damage and appear to be total losses.
The bus received minor damage to the rear bumper and was driven away.
None of the students on the bus or the bus driver received any injuries from the accident.
Stott was ticketed for following too closely. Police say the glare of the morning sun played a role in causing the accident.
