AMSTERDAM, N.Y. - Police in Amsterdam say they have arrested and charged the man responsible for a double murder that happened in the city earlier this year.
The Amsterdam Police Department says 30-year-old Ivan Ramos, aka "Big Man," of 51 Milton Avenue in Amsterdam, has been indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury Monday on two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession with a weapon for the March stabbing deaths of 46-year-old Cheryl Goss and 56-year-old William McDermott.
Both were found stabbed to death inside a home on Locust Avenue. At the time, police said that there were signs of a struggle and that illegal drugs likely contributed to the deaths of the victims.
Ramos has been incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail since the March 2nd homicides on unrelated charges and was recently remanded to state prison again on unrelated charges.
City Police said Ramos was brought from prison to the Amsterdam Police Department to be arrested on the new charges. He was arraigned in Montgomery County Court on Friday.
