Selkirk Fire Dept. remembers victims of 9/11

SELKIRK, N.Y. - On Sunday, the Selkirk Fire District held a 9/11 Remembrance and Honor Service at the fire station in Glenmont.

The service was held at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Station #2 at 301 Glenmont Road.

During the service opening remarks were made by Selkirk Fire District Chief Bill Asprion, placement of wreath and turnout gear and the reading of the names of the 343 fire fighters who gave the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11.

Chief Asprion says the event really brings to mind how closely knit the fire fighter community is.

"We're a very tight brotherhood in the fire service. We work very closely together, we run into burning buildings together, we argue together, of course not everyone agrees with everything so we all fight together, but the bottom line is we're all one," Asprion said.

Several members of the Selkirk Fire Department spent time in New York City in the aftermath of 9/11 to help with search and rescue efforts.
