Chubby's owner to be sentenced for animal cruelty charges

Posted: Updated:

FORT EDWARD, N.Y. - Sentencing took place Thursday in Washington County Court for the animal cruelty case of "Chubby."

Louis Hart pleaded guilty to misdemeanor animal cruelty charges back in July in the death of Chubby, a dog who was found bound with duct tape, and left on the side of a road to die.

Hart allegedly had his friend, Shane Morehouse, leave Chubby on the side of the road in February after he could no longer care the dog. The dog was taken to a local veterinarian and treated for injuries. However it was discovered that the dog was suffering from an extensive unrelated illness and had to be euthanized.

Hart was sentenced to 60 days in jail, and three years probation. He also has been ordered to pay nearly $2,000 in restitution and has been banned from owning companion animals, such as dogs or cats.

Morehouse pleaded guilty in June to animal abandonment. He was sentenced in July to 30 days in jail and three years probation.
