ALBANY, N.Y. - Two new laws were signed by Governor Cuomo Wednesday, both aimed at protecting kids from the harmful effects of cigarettes.
The first prohibits smoking outside school entrances, and the other law bans the sale of e-cigarettes to anyone under the age of 18.
While many school districts in the Capital Region already have regulations in place about smoking on school campuses, that is not the case across the state.
Now, a uniform law prohibits smoking within 100 feet of any school throughout New York.
Parents are in strong support of the law, saying it is not only a huge win when it comes to children's health, but also the example that is set for them.
The banned sale of e-cigarettes to minors will go into effect January 1, while the 100 feet rule for schools goes into effect immediately.
