Oswego, NY soldier dies in Jalalabad, Afghanistan

FORT CARSON, Colo. (AP) - A 23-year-old soldier from New York has died in Afghanistan.
    
The Department of Defense says Spc. Kyle R. Rookey of Oswego died Sunday in Jalalabad in a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division based at Fort Carson near Colorado Springs.
    
Rookey had served in the Army for 2 1/12 years and had been deployed in Afghanistan since March. He operated drones - unmanned aerial vehicles.
    
He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with a bronze service star among other commendations.
