LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. - A 28-year-old Long Island man visiting Lake George over the Labor Day weekend drowned at Sheppard's Park on Sunday.
The victim Raja Podapoti, of Hicksville, was
recovered from Lake George by lifeguards after
his friends reported him missing while preparing to leave the beach at
Sheppard's Park. Podapoti was with a
group of approximately ten friends visiting Lake George
over the weekend.
While
preparing to leave the beach for the day, Podapoti's friends advised lifeguards
that he was unaccounted for and that he had not been observed exiting the
water.
The lifeguards directed all swimmers to exit the lake and
began a search of the water in accordance with policy and procedure. Podapoti was located submerged under
several feet of water a short time later and was removed to the beach where
resuscitation efforts began.
Lifeguards and paramedics from the Lake George Emergency
Squad were able to restore the victim's heartbeat, and he was subsequently
transported to the Glens Falls
Hospital where he was
admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
Podapoti died as a result around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The cause of death has been determined to be as a result of accidental
drowning.
