High-speed motorcycle chase in Amsterdam leads to arrest

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. - On September 1st, at approximately 10:27 p.m., Amsterdam Police Officers observed 31-year-old Brian Lewis speeding on a motorcycle down Wall Street.

A traffic stop was attempted, but Lewis failed to comply.

Lewis passed several stop signs while traveling at a high speed on several city streets.

Lewis reached speeds of 75 miles per hour on Bunn Street and 120 miles per hour on Guy Park Ave.

Lewis traveled out of the city, westbound on State Highway 5, at times reaching speeds of 150 miles per hour.

Lewis continued into the Village of Tribes Hill and then to the Village of Fort Hunter where he nearly struck a patrol car head-on.

Lewis then lost control on the front lawn of a residence on Main Street in Fort Hunter and fell off of his motorcycle.

He was then placed into custody after a brief struggle.

No injuries occurred.

Lewis was found to have a revoked driver's license with sixteen suspensions or revocations.

He was arrested after being charged with the Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer, Reckless Driving, Operating Without Ignition Interlock Device, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Uninspected Motor Vehicle, 5 Counts of Speed in Zone, 9 Counts of Failure to Stop at Stop Sign, 2 Counts of Passed Steady Red Light, Failure to Comply with Police, Disobeyed Traffic Control Device and Resisting Arrest.

Montgomery County S.O. and New York State Police assisted.
