New Paltz man charged with rape

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - Detectives from the Ulster County Sheriff's Office have arrested 21-year-old Ian P. Mehrhof for alleged sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl.

The investigation was initiated on August 30th after the victim contacted the Sheriff's Office.

Detectives report that 21-year-old Ian P. Mehrhof of 36 Scenic Ridge Road, New Paltz, was taken into custody and charged with one count of Rape in the 2nd Degree.

The investigation revealed that Mehrhof and the victim had been corresponding via Facebook, and that a meeting between the two had been arranged.

Mehrhof allegedly transported the 13-year-old girl to a secluded location in the Town of Gardiner where he made sexual contact with the girl.

Mehrhof was arraigned in the Town of Plattekill Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail without bail.

Investigation is continuing and additional charges are anticipated.
