SCHOHARIE, N.Y. - On Tuesday, August 28, 2012, NEWS10 revisiting the communities that were hardest hit exactly one year ago by the severe flood waters of Tropical Storm Irene.
A year ago, Irene's rains had tapered off by this time, but the flood threat was just starting and continued to grow as area rivers and streams overflowed their banks, wiping out homes and businesses in our communities.
The raging floodwaters took everything from some people; furniture, clothes, pictures and mementoes that had been gathered over a lifetime.
In the weeks and months since, a massive amount of work has gone into rebuilding. But there is still work to be done and that is why on the one year anniversary of Irene NEWS10 is heading back to some of the areas hardest hit, to see the recovery process.
Photos to the right: Our viewer Ken sent us photos taken during Tropical Storm Irene, at 3:30pm, during the height of the storm. Then second photos now showing the area not flooded. These photos are from Vroman's Nose, a highpoint overlooking the Schoharie Valley.
