SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - For the first time in history, two canoes now float upon the infield pond at Saratoga Race Course in honor of Golden Ticket and Alpha, who hit the wire together in an electrifying finish resulting in the first dead heat during Saturday's $1 million Travers Stakes.
The New York Racing Association says the Saratoga tradition of painting the Travers canoe the colors of the winning horse was doubled on Wednesday morning when infield pond at Saratoga Race Course welcomes two canoes for the first time since 1874.
The canoes were launced Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
The Travers is the oldest major stakes race in the country for 3-year-olds, dating back to 1864.
