OLD FORGE, N.Y. (AP) - State police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old high school math teacher at an Adirondack beachfront motel. It happened near another motel where a western New York police officer accidentally shot his 37-year-old son to death in July.
Troopers say Catherine B. Koestner of Utica died after a shooting at 1 a.m. Saturday at Forge Motel in Old Forge, 75 miles northeast of Syracuse. State police said Koestner's boyfriend was listed as a witness. They did not release his name.
On July 21, police say 59-year-old officer Michael Leach of the Perry Village Police Department fatally shot his son Matthew Leach after mistaking him for an intruder inside their Clarks Beach Motel room shortly before 1 a.m. That case is still under investigation.
