ALBANY, N.Y. - Savannah's, a popular Albany restaurant and bar, has decided to close its doors for good on Monday, August 26th.
The owner of the State Street establishment tells NEWS10, "we've had a great time serving the lovely people of Albany, but it's time for a change." He says it has nothing to do with the recently passed Cabaret Law.
Savannah's has been open at 90 State Street since 2008.
The landlord of the property, Harmony Mills South, says the bar has been unable to meet its rental obligations under its lease. Citing the two parties have had several discussions in an effort to determine if new lease terms
could be agreed upon. In April, the landlord says Savannah's initiated legal action which sought in part to enjoin the landlord from commencing eviction
proceedings.
According to Harmony Mills South, the court temporarily enjoined the landlord from commencing eviction
proceedings, on the condition that Savannah's post a bond and pay its base rent
as required under the lease. They say Savannah's has been unable to meet the conditions
to continue the temporary injunction.
The landlord of the property, Harmony Mills South, says they hope to turn the vacated space into affordable childcare for the business professional. The company says they have seen the demand to provide childcare for the downtown district rise and hope to house a daycare soon.
