SCHOHARIE, N.Y. - The Schoharie County Sheriff's Office said around 100 mature marijuana plants and more than a 100 pounds of processed marijuana was seized in the Town of Summit on Wednesday.
Authorities said the pot was located during a flyover, which the Sheriff's Office routinely conducts with National Guard. It was spotted in the back of someone's home.
"The person that did this is well versed in cultivating marijuana, packaging marijuana, processing marijuana and it's a very sophisticated operation," Sheriff Tony Desmond said.
According to Desmond, once deputies went in the male suspect's residence they were able to recover bags of processed marijuana in several freezers throughout the home. Desmond said that one male resident is likely the only person responsible and that an arrest will soon follow.
"I'm not going to get into more detail with that, only because I don't want to compromise the investigation. I'm trying to pull some more information together. The one thing I will say is the male has been cooperative," Nelson Armlin, the lead investigator said.
Authorities couldn't say how much the marijuana was worth yet because it hadn't been weighed.
