LAKE TAGHKANIC, NY - State Police say a 3-year-old boy who had separated from his mother was found by life guards drowned under the water.
Around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Columbia County 911 dispatched rescue agencies, along with state police, to the Lake Taghkanic State Park for a reported drowning that occurred at the West Beach.
Police say the investigation reveals that around 4:10 p.m., the 3-year-old boy had become separated from his mother at the beach. She reported the child missing to life guards on duty, who immediately began to search for the boy.
Life guards and a good samaritan began searching the water. The boy was located under the water and removed where life saving measures were performed by lifeguards and EMS.
The boy was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
New York State Police are investigating.
