Jockey, horse injured during race at Saratoga

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - A jockey was taken to Saratoga Hospital and a horse seriously injured during the second race of the day at Saratoga Race Course on Monday.

Jockey Junior Alvarado was taken off the track on a stretcher after the horse he was riding, Pete's Parley, went down while in first place during the home stretch.

Pete's Parley injured his left front and was removed from the track in an equine ambulance. NYRA says the 5-year-old horse will need to be euthanized due to the fracture.

Alvarado is scheduled to ride Fast Falcon in the $1 million Travers Stakes this Saturday.

NYRA says Alvarado will be released from Saratoga Hospital Monday afternoon.
