Troy police continue patrols for supposed arsonist

Posted: Updated:

TROY, N.Y. - Troy police officers are strategically deployed throughout the city keeping an eye out for signs of arson.

Captain John Cooney says the Troy Police Department increased patrols all weekend and is taking the threat of arson very seriously, after multiple fires were set over the past few weeks. Cooney says the supposed arsonist poses not just a threat to property, but to the lives of those living inside.

Cooney says the investigation into who may be responsible for setting the fires over the past few weeks is still under investigation and at this point no arrests have been made.

Last week, investigators told NEWS10 that they did have a suspect. They believe a woman is possibly being targeted in the arsons.

No suspicious fired have been reported since the suspicious August 12th fire on Sixth Avenue that displaced eight families.

A community meeting will be held Monday night at 6 p.m. to allow residents to help formulate a plan to take back the streets and make Troy a safe place to live once again. Pastor Willie Bacote will sponsor the meeting at the Missing Link Church on Sixth Avenue.
