NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - A candle light vigil for the 20-year-old North Adams soldier who died while
serving his country in Afghanistan was held at Drury High School Sunday night.
Private Michael DeMarsico was on his first tour of duty, scheduled to return in four months, when he was killed by an improvised explosive device this past Thursday.
Hundreds of people in the North Adams community came to pay their respects and honor DeMarsico at the high school he graduated from two years ago.
DeMarsico's aunt Laurie Douglas tells NEWS10 she never knew he touched so many lives until his two childhood
friends planned this gathering.
One mother who attended said the reason we light these
candles is so he can see them from heaven.
A funeral date has not yet been set.
