Albany County Executive Dan McCoy says the Albany County Correctional Facility can now board out-of-state inmates for a period of up to 24 months following legislation signed by Governor Cuomo.
Some states don't have the capacity to house all of their inmates, so they send them to other states' facilities.
"This is encouraging news," says McCoy. "Being allowed to accept out-of-state inmates means new revenue for the county, which has been estimated at $2.4 million per year".
"We have a big jail, a professional jail that has room to take in more inmates," said Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple.
