GUILDERLAND, N.Y. - A 13-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized Tuesday after being struck by a car in Guilderland.
The 13-year-old male was hit around 2:30 p.m. on an on-ramp leading from Western Avenue to I-90 and the Northway, according to the Guilderland Police Department.
Police say the 1999 Toyota Camry, driven by 51-year-old Dan Morlock of Watervliet, was traveling on the ramp to the Northway when the cyclist cut in front of him.
The teen, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Albany Medical Center with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Witnesses said the person was with a group of others when he was struck. The impact knocked off his shoes, scattered a few of his belongs, and cracked the windhield of the car involved.
The accident tied up traffic and led to the closure of the on-ramp for a couple of hours. It was reopened just before 5 p.m.
No tickets will be issued to the driver involved in the accident.
