Duo arrested for allegedly cashing fraudulent checks

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. - The Gloversville Police Department has arrested two individuals they say are responsible for a string of recent forgeries involving creating, printing and cashing fraudulent payroll checks.

Police say 22-year-old Amy Johnson and 21-year-old Bruce Jessop were arrested after the investigation revealed they were cashing checks at various convenient stores and Price Chopper stores in the area.

The two were located at the Valley View Motel where they had been living. Johnson was taken into custody on three warrants from the City of Gloversville, as well as a new charges of Forgery 2nd-degree and Petit Larceny for creating one bad check and cashing it.

As police were attempting to bring her to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office she attempted to escape by slipping out of her handcuffs and running from officers about 75 feet before she was taken back into custody. She was additionally charged with Escape 1st-degree and Resisting Arrest.

Jessop is also faces charges relating to forgeries in Amsterdam.

Gloversville police say the investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending.

Any business that has cashed fake payroll check is encouraged to call police.
