ALBANY, NY - The Albany County Sheriff's Office reports the arrest of three women after
three separate cases of defrauding the Department of Social Services (DSS) of
over $30,000 in July.
"This problem is huge in Albany
County. Our caseload is
stacked. We're backed up with welfare fraud cases," says Albany County Sheriff
Craig Apple.
Apple says 29-year-old Gladys VanDyke, of Delmar, was
arrested after defrauding the DSS of $2,315 by not reporting her correct
household income, 47-year-old Aileen Luu, of Cohoes, was arrested for
defrauding the DSS of $13,234 by not reporting her correct household income,
and 43-year-old Kimberly Mainville, of Albany, was arrested for defrauding the
DSS of $15,084 by failing to report her correct household income.
All three women have been charged with Grand Larceny,
Welfare Fraud, and Offering a false instrument, all felony charges.
The Sheriff's Office says so far this year the total
for DSS fraud arrests has been $268,755.75. DSS
is asking anyone aware of welfare fraud to call the DSS fraud hotline at
447-7380.
