ALBANY, NY - The Albany County Sheriff's Office reports the arrest of three women after three separate cases of defrauding the Department of Social Services (DSS) of over $30,000 in July.

"This problem is huge in Albany County. Our caseload is stacked. We're backed up with welfare fraud cases," says Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple.

Apple says 29-year-old Gladys VanDyke, of Delmar, was arrested after defrauding the DSS of $2,315 by not reporting her correct household income, 47-year-old Aileen Luu, of Cohoes, was arrested for defrauding the DSS of $13,234 by not reporting her correct household income, and 43-year-old Kimberly Mainville, of Albany, was arrested for defrauding the DSS of $15,084 by failing to report her correct household income.

All three women have been charged with Grand Larceny, Welfare Fraud, and Offering a false instrument, all felony charges.

The Sheriff's Office says so far this year the total for DSS fraud arrests has been $268,755.75. DSS is asking anyone aware of welfare fraud to call the DSS fraud hotline at 447-7380.
