ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A judge has sentenced the wife of U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey to 60 days in jail for driving drunk and hitting another car while texting.
The January 18 crash in Albany was the second alcohol-related offense for Allison Lee-Hinchey in a year.
She was charged after her BMW rear-ended another car. Lee-Hinchey told police she was texting and had had a glass of wine. Tests showed a blood alcohol content of .14 percent, nearly twice the legal limit of .08 percent.
Her husband, a Democrat from the Hudson Valley, announced the day after her arrest that he would not seek another term.
Lee-Hinchey was also fined $500, will be on probation for three years and will have to use a device that checks for alcohol when she starts her car.
