TROY, NY - It was a busy Friday for the Troy Police Department, two shootings in a 12-hour span. The most recent took place at an apartment on Sausse Avenue at 1:40 p.m.
"I heard four or five shots going off, I was a little scared I didn't want to afford to get shot," said a witness.
NEWS10 decided to protect the teenager's identity. She said she saw two suspects fleeing the apartment moments after the shots were fired.
"I saw two guys run down from the apartment and then get in a navy blue car then take off down the road, one had a gray hoody on, black pants, and the other was wearing all black, the one in the gray hoodie was holding a pistol in his hand," the witness said.
According to police, one man was shot in the upper torso inside the apartment. He was transported to the hospital. Police say his injuries are non-life threatening.
The other shooting occurred 12 hours earlier, at 1:35 a.m. on the steps of a house on Fourth Street.
According to police, several people were hanging out on the stoop when the shots rang out. One man was hit in the hand, and also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
"I heard some sounds I thought they might have been gun shots I wasn't going to jump to conclusions, but I looked out and saw a bunch of police in front of the building," said neighbor Tazon Keals.
Keals walks past those steps every day and he said he is not surprised by what happened.
"You always hear about some kind of crime, between shootings and robberies, that's how this area is really," said Keals.
Pastor Willie has been trying to stop violence in the City of Troy for years.
"Look around in your community, find out the faces in our community, no matter what time of the night it is and if we take a part and become inclusive in our community we can stop this before it runs ramped again in the city of troy," said Pastor Willie.
Keals, prefers to take the opposite approach.
"I just stay in my own house, try not to get involved with the wrong people, just try to stay with the people that I know, I don't try to meet any new faces," said Keals.
Others say, there is only one true way to escape the reoccurring violence.
"Well we're moving, this just made it to where we want to move," said the witness.
Police cannot say whether or not the shootings are connected. No arrests have been made. The names of the victims have not yet been released.
