SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Out at Saratoga Race Track, it is not just about dropping money on bets, it is also about giving back.
On Wednesday NEWS10 caught up with some local volunteers with the American Veterans Care Organization, raising money to help our nation's brothers and sisters in arms.
Volunteers are at the race track six days a week taking donations to supplement government aid for service members. And the people at the track do more than answer their call. "I always donate to veterans, because without them we wouldn't be doing this here."
Shawn Whitman, the Director of Volunteer Services says, "It's great, when they can't feed their family or have a bed to sleep on, and we can give that to them with the money we raise out here."
By the time the meet is over, volunteers say they average around $22,000 each season.
