Gillibrand and Long agree to Senate race debate

Posted:

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Democratic U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Republican challenger Wendy Long have agreed to debate a few weeks before the November election.

Cable news stations NY1 and YNN say they will host a live candidates' debate at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs on Oct. 17.

Long is a New York City lawyer who won a three-way Republican primary in May.

Gillibrand is running her second Senate campaign since she was appointed in 2009 to replace Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. She won an election in 2010 to finish the last two years of Clinton's term.
