FORT EDWARD, NY – A man plead guilty to
misdemeanor animal cruelty charges in Washington County Court on Monday.
Louis Hart was arrested in February after his
dog was found duct taped and dumped on the side of a Washington County road.
Hart allegedly had his friend, Shane
Morehouse, leave the dog on the side of the road after he could no longer care
the dog. The dog was taken to a local veterinarian and treated for injuries.
However it was discovered that the dog was suffering from an extensive
unrelated illness and had to be euthanized.
Hart will be sentenced on September 6. He is
expected to get 30-60 days in jail and 3 years of probation. He will also not
be able to have companion animals during probation, although he has two
parakeets that he can keep.
Morehouse will have to pay restitution for
services performed, which include treating, euthanizing, and exploratory
autopsy.
