NISKAYUNA, NY – A Schuylerville teen was pronounced dead
after a car crash on Saturday in Niskayuna.
The accident happened at 4:00 p.m. on Aqueduct Road.
Police say 16-year-old Nicholas Giovannone, of
Schuylerville, was operating a 1991 Honda eastbound on Aqueduct Road when he
crossed over into the westbound lane. Giovannone's vehicle struck a 2002 Ford
Taurus head on.
The driver of the Ford Taurus, 25-year-old Joseph
Mormon-Tibbs, of Schenectady, was transported by medical-flight to Albany
Medical Center with serious injuries.
Giovannone was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say Giovannone's vehicle speed and failure to stay
within a lane are preliminary contributing factors in the cause of the crash. Giovannone
was also not wearing a seat belt.
The investigation is still on-going. Stay tuned for updates.
