TROY, NY – An assault victim clings to life after a physical confrontation in Troy early Saturday morning, police say.

Troy Police were notified at approximately 1:15 a.m. of a 40-year-old male in the emergency room at Albany Medical Center. Police were told that the victim's condition would most likely be fatal.

However the victim is currently on life support and is alive.

Police say the incident happened at the bridge area over the Poestenkill Creek on Fourth Street between Canal Street and Ida Street. The scenario leading to the incident appears to be along the lines of an argument which escalated to a physical confrontation.

The victim appears to have suffered injury to the head inflicted by a blunt instrument.

Detectives are currently conducting interviews with witnesses. However police say the witnesses have questionable identification and do not speak English.

Police say they do not see any extended threat to the safety and well-being of neighborhood residents.

The incident is still under investigation. Stay tuned for updates.
