ALBANY, NY – Volunteers and staff of the USS Slater in Albany celebrated the 222nd birthday of the United States Coast Guard on Saturday.
The United States Coast Guard was founded on August 4, 1790 when Congress authorized the construction of ten sea vessels to enforce trade laws.
Veteran's attending the celebration say the Coast Guard has been instrumental throughout the country's short history.
The USS Slater is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The ship is located on the Hudson River in Downtown Albany.
