SCOTIA, N.Y. - The Scotia Police Department said Friday that a 10-year-old girl who reported that a man tried to lure her into his car last week admitted that she fabricated the story.
Last Friday afternoon, the young girl said that the supposed suspect offered her candy in order to lure her into his car. But Thursday night, the girl admitted she lied.
The hoax was revealed Thursday around 7:30 p.m. after officers responded to a call from the girl's mother reporting that the girl said the same car and male suspect had just driven past their home where the girl alleged the first incident occurred.
While being interviewed by an officer, the girl stated that she made up both stories because she felt she was not getting attention from her parents since the birth of a sibling.
The girl will not face any charges.
