Possible mail delays after West Ghent chemical fire


ALBANY, NY – Postal official's report that mail deliveries may be delivered late after a chemical fire in West Ghent early Thursday morning.

Rural deliveries that are affected by conditions include routes out of Chatham, East Chatham, East Nassau, Ghent, Kinderhook, Nassau, Niverville, Old Chatham, Schodack Landing, Canaan, Stuyvesant, Stephentown, and Valatie.

The Postal Service says deliveries in Austerlitz, Brainard, Malden Bridge, and Spencertown have Highway Contact Route delivers that may travel through the impact area.

Areas without delivery impact are Columbiaville, New Baltimore, North Chatham, Stuyvesant Falls, and West Lebanon.

Postal Officials add that all offices are open but extended travel into the restricted area is being withheld.
