Horse Trainer Gary Contessa talks with NEWS10's Christine O'Donnell for today's Track Talk on Ten!
Q: What can you tell me about your horses?
A: Like any trainer at Saratoga, everyone wants to be here and you only get 30 stalls no matter who you are, no matter what your name is, no matter what your horses are. There's just not enough stalls for all the horses to be here. So for the 30 stalls I bring my 30 best horses.
Q: How many horses do you have racing today?
A: I have two racing today. I have Margaret Lillian and Ziptronic racing today. We average running one to two horses just about every day.
Q: How are you feeling about the season so far?
A: This is Saratoga. We've already won two races in the opening week. The first 5 days we didn't win anything and I wasn't sleeping well at night, but after you get that first win, after you get that out of the way, things go much easier.
Q: Do you have any tips or advice for our viewers.
A: If you want a tip on a horse I have one that I like a lot. He's going to run in about a week, maybe 10 days. His name is Good To Look. He's probably worth a couple dollars.
(Talking about the horse behind him) This is Wildcat's Element. She ran 3rd last time, she's doing really well. She should win too on August 6th. She'll do well, but it all depends on what the other trainers are bringing into the race. No matter how good you think your horse, is someone could always have a better one.
Q: Is there anything else you'd like people to know?
A: I love the fact that the people in Saratoga and in the northeast embrace Saratoga. We love the fan base here, we love everything about it. It's the fans that make this place so great.
