SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Marylou Whitney and her husband, John Hendrickson, have given Saratoga Hospital exclusive rights to sell the new "Marylou Whitney Rose" Yankee Candle, with hopes of raising $20,000 for the hospital's new Community Health Resource Center.
The candle is the same scent as the Marylou Whitney tea rose, created in Whitney's honor in 2010 as an 85th birthday gift from Hendrickson.
Like the rose, the candle is pink and available in two versions. One features a classic photo of Whitney from years ago and the other bears a more recent photo, taken when the rose was unveiled.
The 22-ounce candle, Yankee Candle's "large jar" size, will sell for $20.
Sales begin Wednesday at the annual Summer Benefit Auction for Saratoga Hospital. Whitney and Hendrickson are honorary chairpersons of the event, which is the hospital's largest annual fundraiser.
After the benefit auction, candles will be available in the hospital Gift Shoppe and at Treasures Boutique located at 60 West Avenue in Saratoga Springs.
The Community Health Resource Center, expected to open in 2013, will be located at 24 Hamilton Street in Saratoga Springs, and will provide high-quality, affordable primary care and complementary medical and social services to residents of our community regardless of their ability to pay.
