TROY, NY – Two separate early Sunday morning fires in Troy are being
considered accidental.
The first fire happened at 1:48 a.m. at Ninth Street
and Rensselaer Street.
Two people lived at the four-unit apartment building but neither of them was
there at the time of the fire.
Troy Fire Chief Tom Garrett says one of the residents in the apartment building
had left food cooking on the stove and left to take his friend to the hospital
when the fire started.
Chief Garrett says the fire does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
Then five hours later, another fire broke out at 6:20 a.m. at 340 Second
Street.
Chief Garrett says the fire is believed to have started in the laundry room;
however an exact cause of fire has not been determined at this time. The cause
of fire is still under investigation.
At the Second Street building about seven people will have to find another
place to sleep on Sunday night.
Chief Garrett says both buildings will be able to salvage.
