NY braces for storms; 10,000 lose power in NY

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo is meeting with utility officials and state regulators as a wave of severe storms cross the state.

The National Weather Service gave Cuomo a pre-emptive warning about the possibility that severe thunderstorms and tornadoes.

Cuomo says he will meet Thursday with the leadership of Con Edison, the New York Power Authority, and the state Public Service Commission to make sure the New York City area is prepared.

About 10,000 utility customers in western New York and Sullivan County northwest of New York City have lost power as New Yorkers are being warned of the possibility of severe weather. The power losses Thursday morning came as thunderstorms move eastward across the state.
