Police: Body of man found in Selkirk identified

Posted:

SELKIRK, N.Y. - The Bethlehem Police Department has identified the body of a man whose mummified remains were discovered in Selkirk on Sunday evening.

Police say the identity of 46-year-old George Flannery Jr. was confirmed Tuesday through fingerprints.

Flannery was reported missing by his sister in West Virginia to the New York State Police in Saratoga in July, with the last known contact to his family in March.

Police say Flannery led a transient lifestyle with ties to West Virginia and the Capital Region.

The mummified remains were found along Route 9W in a wooded area of Selkirk by passers-by. Police said the body had been at the spot for months and without any signs of trauma or foul play, it is believed the man died of natural causes.
