FLORIDA, N.Y. - Prosecutors say a 15-year-old boy will be charges as an adult in the rifle shooting deaths of two teenagers whose bodies were found in at Mohawk Valley field.
Montgomery County District Attorney James Conboy says Matthew Phelps, of Amsterdam, is charged with second-degree murder in the July 9th deaths of 13-year-old Johnathan DeJesus and 16-year-old Paul Damphier. Also charged is 16-year-old Anthony Brasmeister, also of Amsterdam. Both were arraigned on Friday.
Brasmeister is represented by Public Defender Jeffrey Francisco and is scheduled for a hearing Friday in town court in Florida. An attorney hasn't been assigned for Phelps.
The bodies Damphier and
DeJesus were found ten days later, July 19th, in a field off Snooks
Corners Road in the Montgomery County Town of Florida, near where
they were last seen on July 9th, when Damphier's mother
told police she dropped them off at Dejesus' home.
Police have said the four teens all knew one another and that the shooting may have involved a dispute over marijuana.
Phelps is the primary suspect who police believe pulled the trigger.
