SCHENECTADY, NY – Tennis Grand Slam Singles Champion Chris Evert made a special appearance in Schenectady on Saturday afternoon.

Evert appeared at the SPORTIME Schenectady fitness club to kick off the 18th season that the World Team Tennis league has been in the Capital Region. The league uses a unique format in which men and women compete in single and double matches as a team.
Evert says she is excited to return to the area to compete and promote the league that has meant so much to her over the years. She says, "I loved it, I played for three years, I played three summers and I loved it. It has everything, all of the aspects of every type of tennis you want to see men's singles, women's singles, doubles, mixed doubles, all in a neat little package of two and half hours so you are getting to see that, so I'm a big advocate of it."

This year's event will feature five-time Wimbledon Champion Venus Williams, five-time Grand Slam Singles Champion Martina Hingis, and men's hall of fame tennis player John Mcenroe.

Venus will play against Hingis Saturday night at the Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.
