Seeber released from prison weeks after new sentencing

SARATOGA, N.Y. - Katherine Seeber, the Saratoga County woman who pleaded guilty to killing her 91-year-old great-grandmother was released from state prison Monday.

30-year-old Katherine Seeber, of Wilton, was sentenced to 14 and 1/2 years behind bars on May 29th for the February 12, 2000 killing of 91-year old Ruth Witter in Colonie.

Seeber was released from the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility Monday, only weeks after the sentencing, as she had already served 12 years and was given credit for her time. This was a conditional release; the ruling was that she had successfully served 6/7 (six-seventh's) of her sentence with no major rules violations and good behavior.

Seeber originally pleaded guilty in 2001 to killing Witter and was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison, but was granted a new trial in June 2011 after questionable evidence led a Saratoga County judge to throw out the conviction.

Seeber will be under post-release supervision until January 16, 2015.
