ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation to extend New York's Iran Divestment Act to keep companies that invest in Iran's energy sector from contracting with state or local public authorities, as well as the state and city universities.
In January, Cuomo signed the law prohibiting such companies from receiving state or local government contracts.
It authorizes the Office of General Services to develop a list of banned contractors. It requires companies to certify they do not hold such investments when applying for government contracts in New York.
The law has an appeal process.
The new provisions are effective immediately.
