PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A young male black bear that had been spotted roaming a residential Pittsfield neighborhood for about a week has been caught and relocated.
Massachusetts Environmental Police caught the 150-pound bear Tuesday in Pittsfield's West Side by safely tranquilizing it near a school.
It was then brought to an undisclosed location for release.
Residents say it had been seen in the neighborhood, mostly at night, foraging for food.
John Skubel tells The Berkshire Eagle one night all he saw was a white trash bag flash by.
Authorities think the bear may have wandered into the city from the nearby Pittsfield State Forest, which is about four miles from the area where it was captured.
