UAlbany partners to build new Nanoscience building

Posted:

ALBANY, NY - UAlbany's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering is entering a partnership, which will help an underrepresented area of the community take part in the nanotechnology boom.

South End Association Chair Carolyn McLaughlin says, "The kids in this neighborhood will be able to watch their parents take classes, and then they'll want to take classes here. This neighborhood is vibrant and diverse, and deserves a college."

The empty lot at Warren and Phillips Streets in Albany's south end will soon house a Nanoscience building. The old Keiren Plaza building on Broadway will be a headquarters for the project, as well as provide training to future students of the South End Nanotech College.

UAlbany, partnering with engineering firm Clough Harbour & Associates and community group Trinity Alliance, will complete construction on the college in 2014. Groundbreaking on the plot of land is set to happen this September.
