ROTTERDAM, N.Y. - Police in Rotterdam have arrested a babysitter who they say left a 1-year-old infant inside the hot car while she shopped at the mall.
Police say they were called to the Rotterdam Square Mall around 12:20 p.m. Friday for a call reporting an unattended infant inside a car.
An officer arrived at the scene and found the child inside the locked car. Due to the temperature, the officer entered the car by removing a side window.
Police say the child's babysitter 35-year-old Shanika Maxell, of Robinson Street in Schenectady, left the child inside the car for about 43 minutes while she shopped in the mall.
The child was taken to Ellis Hospital by EMS, though does not appear to have suffered any serious health issues at this time.
Maxwell is charged with one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
