NY man finds $8,000, returns to owner

Posted:

BLOOMFIELD, N.Y. (AP) - A good Samaritan who found a bag with $8,000 in cash along an upstate New York road has returned it to its owner.

Nick Optis of the Rochester suburb of Mendon came across money bag in Bloomfield south of Rochester on Monday morning. After finding checks made out to nearby White's Farm Market with the cash, he brought the bag to the market.

Market owner Chip White told the Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester the money was the weekend's revenue. An employee had apparently lost it on the way to the bank when he opened and closed his car door after seeing it was partially ajar.

The employee realized at the bank the money was gone and raced back to the farm stand. Optis had already dropped it off.
