Saratoga County retiree wins $5 million from scratch off
WATERFORD, N.Y. - Saratoga County's latest lottery winner received his winnings of at least $5 million on Thursday morning.
The lucky winner, 80-year-old Stanley Muraski, who was born and raised in Waterford, won the top prize on the Set For Life scratch-off game guaranteeing him at least $5,000,000.
The ticket was purchased on July 2nd at the Stewart's Shops on Hudson River Road in Waterford, where the check was presented.
Muraski says he has played the Set For Life ticket for years, and has one reason for that dedication: "I always seem to win on that ticket," he says.
"I won $10 on a Set For Life ticket earlier that morning. I went in to cash it and decided to buy another one with the winnings. I guess I made the right decision," he explained.
Muraski says he won $80,000 on a Take Five in Lansingburg eight years ago and spent it all on Christmas presents for others. He says not this time. This time, he wants to have fun and pay off his debt. "There is one thing I've always wanted to do. I've always wanted to travel to Rome, Italy, and wake up in the morning and hear the church bells. I think that dream will finally come true."
Muraski also says he will fix his house, that he has lived in his entire life, that damaged by Hurricane Irene. He says he was still waiting on FEMA funds. Now, he says he will not need them.
The top prize on the Set For Life ticket guarantees a minimum payout of $5 million to be paid over 20 years. Muraski will receive his $5 million in 19 annual payments of $260,000, netting $172,068, and one additional payment of $60,000, netting $39,708.
