BENNINGTON, Vt. - The head of the Little League in Shaftsbury was arrested after Vermont State Police say he stole $8,200 from the organization's funds.

Police say 41-year-old Brian Bushee, of Arglington, pleaded not guilty in Bennington Court on Monday to a felony charged of Embezzlement.

An investigation began after a concerned member of the Norshaft Little League, in the area of North Bennington and Shaftsbury, told police there had been some concerning changes since Bushee became president in 2010.

Investigators discovered that Bushee had taken over responsibilities of president, treasurer and secretary, and there were no records of money raised at the concession stand.

The investigation also revealed that about $2,000 in sales of raffle tickets to Norshaft players was unaccounted for, as well as a donated pitching machine and an equipment trailer had been sold.

The two pieces of equipment were sold for $2,200. The man who bought the pitching machine told police Bushee had asked to be paid in cash.

According to police, Bushee admitted to taking the money from the Little League for his personal use and that he "intended to pay it back."

Investigators say, in total, $13,700 was missing from Norshaft Little League's account since 2010 and Bushee could only account for $5,500.
