
KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) - The owners of Kingston Hospital are proposing to close it and consolidate operations with nearby Benedictine Hospital.
HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley officials made the announcement Monday about their two hospitals in Kingston after a meeting with regulators from the state Department of Health, who will have final say over the proposal.
Officials say it's likely that the number of beds will be reduced from 300 at both hospitals now to about 200. HealthAlliance officials say creating a single campus at Benedictine will mean establishing a new emergency room there at an estimated cost of about $12 million.
