ALBANY, NY - More than 6,000 tickets were sold to this year's Countryfest, which was held in the Times Union Center for the first time.
County music stars Eric Church, Joe Nichols, Thompson Square and Josh Thompson headlined the event.
The block party gave several local artists the chance to perform in front of a bigger crowd, among them 16-year-old Chelsea Cavanaugh. Given her rich voice, energy, and confidence it is hard to believe the Latham native is just a teenager.
"I started performing when I was 13 and when you start out for have to do small, little things, like restaurants and bars and then the more I did that people would hear of me and call me to do bigger events," Cavanaugh said.
Her family, including her mother and brother were there to support her.
"She works very hard. You have to put the time in, like anything and she does. Nobody tells her to but she just loves it," Lisa Cavanaugh, Chelsea's mother said.
The
event was moved from the Altamont Fairgrounds to Albany, which many people called a disappointment, citing limited space and fewer vendors. Last year's event had 25,000 people, this one was much smaller. Although the exact number is still unknown.
The annual event is sponsored by the radio station WGNA and there is no word yet if they will keep the event at the TU Center.
